Liberal Jewish Community Munich

Baruch Dayan HaEmet

On Friday, August 2, 2024, cantor Nikola David passed away completely unexpectedly. We are devastated by this great tragedy and our thoughts are with his family.

Baruch dayan haEmet.

Cantor Nikola David was born in Bela Crkva in what is now Serbia. He held degrees in  music education and classical vocal training from Novi Sad and worked as an opera singer at the Thuringia State Theater in Eisenach, the Augsburg Theater and the Anhaltisches Theater in Dessau, among others. He then decided to take on a new path and completed his cantorial training at both the Abraham Geiger College in Potsdam and at the University of Potsdam. His ordinance and investiture took place on April 10, 2013. Since 2014 Nikola David has been cantor of the liberal Jewish congregation in Munich, Beth Shalom.

His sudden death comes as a big shock to the community. His strong voice has long since become a symbol of the community. His big heart will be missed.
As we knew Nikola, he is most likely already conducting an choir of angels.

Our hearts are broken over this tragic loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
Yehi Sichro Baruch.
